Indian food

When we first talked about coming to see Emily and Justin, they said they wanted to take us to this Indian food restaurant they came across.  Ok, I'm up for adventure.  I had no idea how big of an adventure this would be.  In a brownstone type building there are four restaurants.  Panna, Panna II are side by side up the steps.  I'm not sure what the names of the two restaurants are in the basement of the building but these two seem identical.  You can't see into the front windows because of the strings of lights across the whole window.  You have to duck your head when you walk in because of the strings of lights and other miscellanous stuff hanging from the ceiling.  Notice the happy birthday banner on the wall behind me.  I guess it's always someone's birthday in NYC.  Birthday cake is also listed on the dessert menu.  English is kind of spoken here. The tables and chairs are so close together I was worried about knocking a water glass off the table next to me while I was trying to sit down.  The waiters just seemed to float between the tables with full trays of food or armsful of empty dishes.  Imagine hosting a Thanksgiving feast with your guests sitting in your closet.  That's about as close as I can come to explaining what this experience was like.  Very unique, very fun!

Appetizers - chicken and something kind of spicy.
My meal - chicken tandoori - very good - I'd compare it to baked chicken with a marinade that's hard to describe.  Not spicy even thought it looks like it would be.
Emily's dish - Lamb Kurma - again very good and not terribly spicy.  Just can't think of something to compare the flavor to.  Very unique.  I'm probably not going to seek out an Indian food restaurant but if I find myself at one, I'll know what to order.
