Memorial Day

A holiday to remember loved ones who have passed away. A holiday to remember veterans who gave their lives while serving our country. Memorial Day weekend, I try to take my kids to the cemetery to visit graves of loved ones and to talk about what I remember about them. It's a trip they usually grumble about but don't seem to mind too much once we get there. We visit gravesites of great grandparents and I talk about what I know or remember about them, also, sadly, we visit the graves of young people who passed away in their prime. It reminds me to spend time with my kids while they are here and it reminds them that sometimes we don't get to grow old and to be more careful with life. The above picture is from Mt. Hope Cemetery - seeing all the flags flying always brings a lump to my throat. It's such an impressive sight.
