Each graduate presented their loved ones with a rose during commencement. I thought Alicia would never get all the roses out that she wanted to present! I told her later how lucky she was that she had so many people in her life that loved her so much! She agreed!
Alicia gives her mom a hug and a rose.

Forrest's grandma gets one too.

So does his mom.

And Grandma Ratzlaff too!

Butterfield High School

and we are so proud of her for completing this portion of her education. She has strength, courage and determination. She has lived a lot in her 19 years and we have learned a lot by watching her struggle and grow, fail and succeed, repeat her mistakes and eventually learn from them. She has taught us to be strong and courageous, to love and to be patient. Most importantly she has made us who we are today because she has been in our lives. We will love you forever, Alicia, and we are so proud of who you have become and we know that you will touch the lives of the people who surround you and you will make this world a better place!

Track and Field Day

The weather was nice
(even though my son wore his sweatshirt while running)
Yes, he was that fast. Could hardly get a picture of him.
(not really - he came in second to last)

But glad he was participating. I waited to watch him in another race but he told me later that because he was sick the day they signed up for the events, he only got his name in this one. Oh well. It was a nice day to be at the field.

Last day of Sunday School

Sunday May 17, 2009, our time together was done. I enjoyed team teaching this 5th grade class with my friend, Connie, but we were finished for the summer.
Here's something I learned about 5th graders:
They really like Jolly Ranchers - certain flavors that is!
They like Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies
They like most any kind of treat or snack
They like hangman
They don't like to sit next to the opposite sex
(boys on one side of the table and girls on the other side)
They always have something to say...all the time...relevant to the discussion or not
They are very competetive when it comes to word finds and tootsie rolls!
and....
They are a great bunch of kids to spend an hour with on Sunday morning!

Choir Concert

The theme for this years spring choir concert was "movies". The limited edition kids were to come up with their favorite movie character to dress like and the choices were fun and the costumes were fabulous!
Macy decided on "Matilda" from the Roald Dahl story. I shopped at second hand stores to find her the right outift and ended up at Target in the little girls' section. Yes, an extra large in little girls still fits her!

Add a hair bow, white t-shirt, take off the shoes and socks and there you are! Matilda! She's with Tory who had a few choice characters and I think she finally settled on Fantine from Les Miserables.

There's Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, William Shakespeare from Shakespeare in Love and Boo from Monsters, Inc.

The guys hamming it up for the camera. We have Ace, William, Indiana Jones, The Joker, Rocky, the Scarecrow, and Aladdin. Later the concert choir did an Abba medley. It was hard not to sing along and I suspect a lot of adults felt that way!
